Once a journalist in Western Pennsylvania, Rachel Schmucker moved to New York City in October 2006 to begin her career as a freelance writer and editor. With a vision and little more than an Apple PowerBook and a stack of styles guides, she soon found herself working with clients to help communicate their missions clearly, concisely and creatively.
A successful year in Manhattan yielded a multitude of professional experience and growth, but Rachel now finds herself back in Pittsburgh, where she is eager to also make her proofreaders’ mark as a copy editor. Her command of English grammar and ability to write in varying styles allows Rachel to compose and edit copy for a diverse clientele, and her understanding of creative processes enables collaboration with artists and graphic designers.
Rachel graduated magna cum laude and holds a B.A. in Print Journalism from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, where she also minored in Theater Arts. As a budding writer, she contributed articles and creative nonfiction pieces to newspapers and literary journals. She also worked as a features reporter for the Erie Times-News (Erie, Pa.). Rachel presently helps large corporations, entrepreneurs and non-profit foundations tell their stories. In her free time, she enjoys strong coffee and diagramming sentences.
